Kitchen Air Technology (KAT)
KAT is an integral and innovative climate control system for commercial kitchens that ensures minimal energy consumption.
The warm air from our kitchen is cleaned and reused. The KAT system uses a special liquid that is atomized in the kitchen exhaust duct. The liquid is made entirely of natural products. The grease vapors and odors bind to the liquid and no longer adhere to the duct surfaces. The KAT filter captures the liquid, allowing the heat from the clean air stream to be transferred to the cold supply air. This way, we save up to 80% on heating demand. KAT also minimizes fire hazards and deodorizes the air up to 90%.

Green roofs improve our environmental and living conditions. Our rooftop garden filters harmful substances from the air and retains rainfall, significantly reducing peak runoff. The design for the external green space is entirely dependent on local precipitation throughout all seasons of the year, which is why a specific selection of flowering plants and herbs suitable for this purpose has been chosen. Animals also find their way to this piece of nature!
Bee hotel
The insect hotel on our rooftop garden is specially designed to accommodate various insects. In the pine cones and small pieces of wood, especially spiders and insects like ladybugs and earwigs will nest. The different tubes provide a grateful place for solitary bees to leave their eggs in. Bees first leave pollen in the tube of the insect hotel. Then they lay an egg and seal the chamber. The bees then repeat the ritual of leaving pollen and laying an egg until the tube is full. Then the tube is sealed on the outside. When the first laid egg hatches, the larva feeds on the pollen. When the larva pupates into a bee, they wait for the passage to the outside to be clear. Once the last laid egg hatches, the exit can be opened and all the bees can go outside.
Nesting box for swifts
Research has shown that swifts like to use cavity blocks as nesting boxes. This cavity block has been specially developed in collaboration with the Swallow Advisory Bureau to create new nesting opportunities in buildings. During the construction of Hotel Nijmegen-Lent, 20 nesting boxes for swifts were installed on the northeastern side of the lower part of the hotel.
